Seth MacFarlane Reveals There’s ‘No Plan’ for New Season of His Hit Series

Seth MacFarlane said his TV series Tedmay soon come to an end despite its popularity, due to its extremely high production costs.

The Peacock series, which premiered in January 2024, is a prequel series of the Mark Wahlberg-led films of the same name. Set in the 1990s, the show follows the early adventures of 16-year-old John Bennett (originally played by Wahlberg, now played by Max Burkholder) and his anthropomorphic, adult-language teddy bear, which he brought to life as a child.

The show was a hit with viewers, quickly becoming the most-watched original title on Peacock three days after its pilot episode aired. However, its ballooning budget has meant the network is struggling to continue with Ted, despite its good returns.

“What I kept hearing [from Peacock and Universal] was, ‘Listen, the show is really expensive to produce and there’s no way to do it at a lower cost.’ So I said, ‘All right, I hear you loud and clear,’" MacFarlane told The Wrap." So I wrote the last scene with Max [Burkholder] walking into a gym, presumably coming out as Mark Wahlberg in the first Ted film."

Seth went on to say that, due to the CGI requirements of Ted, who he also voices, it was the equivalent of "doing an Avengers movie every 22 minutes with the amount of CGI that it takes, not only to animate the bear, but to act the bear."

However, fans of the Ted franchise will hopefully not be deprived for too long. This week, it was announced that a third film was in the works, with MacFarlane, Wahlberg, and Amanda Seyfried all reprising their roles from the first two films.
