"Really nice moment": Lisandro Martinez reveals classy gesture from Aston Villa & Liverpool stars

Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez has appreciated the classy gesture from Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister during his long-term knee injury.

The Argentine spent most of 2025 on the sidelines with an anterior cruciate ligament injury picked up against Crystal Palace. He had a long road to recovery, and it took almost 10 months for him to return to action.

In an interview with D Sports (via TyC Sports), the United star has now revealed that Martinez and Mac Allister made a classy gesture by showing up at his house to encourage him during a tough period.

He said: “It was one of the toughest situations. I needed everyone’s help; without them, it wouldn’t have been easy. You have to start from scratch again. Dibu and Mac Allister showed up at my house to support me.

“That shows what we are like in the national team, how we look out for each other. Dibu sent me a message. He said, ‘I’m coming to your house.’ And when he arrived, he said, ‘Look, Mac Allister is coming too’. Oh well, you handle it,’ I told him. It was a really nice moment.”

Martinez previously said he considered retiring after his serious knee injury last February.

The 28-year-old has made a terrific recovery to appear in 15 games this campaign. He has played a key part in the club’s upturn in the Premier League under interim manager Michael Carrick.

The Red Devils recently suffered their first defeat under Carrick’s tutelage. Martinez has been out for the last few games with a calf problem, but the Argentine should be back in action by next month.

The World Cup winner has already been ruled out of Sunday’s league game against Aston Villa at Old Trafford. He could also be sidelined for the away trip to Bournemouth before the international break.

Hence, Martinez has more than a month to fully recover from his current concern. The centre-back could be crucial to United’s prospects of securing a top-five league finish and Champions League football.

The defender is also a vital player for Argentina. The South American heavyweights will defend their World Cup crown this summer and will want a fully fit and firing Martinez for the tournament.
