BBQ and jam session to raise funds for Palestinian film festival

The Palestinian Independent Film Festival is set to return for the third year, this time in Nicosia. The upcoming event will take place in May and to make it a reality, the organisers are hosting a fundraising event with a BBQ and a jam session to raise funds so that the festival can remain independent and accountable.

“Last year, we launched our crowdfunding campaign to help sustain the festival independently,” say the organisers in an announcement. “As we prepare for our third edition, we are turning again to our community because we need your support to make it possible.

“From the beginning, PIFF was built as an independent space. The way a festival is funded determines what it can show, platform and defend. We choose to remain accountable to our community and to Palestinian filmmakers and not to sponsors or political agendas.”

As such, a souvla and BBQ fundraising event is happening this Saturday, March 14 at Meltemi in Nicosia to gather funds for the festival costs. Those who want to volunteer at the festival will also receive details on how to sign up as well at the event. The BBQ starts at 2pm and will include vegan and vegetarian food as well.
