Journalist who exposed Epstein: DOJ failed to pursue leads in his death

The House Oversight Committee requested Friday that prison guard Tova Noel testify about her role monitoring Jeffrey Epstein during his 2019 detention before his controversial death.

Recently released Justice Department files revealed Noel made suspicious internet searches immediately before Epstein's body was discovered and deposited $5,000 in cash 10 days prior, a transaction flagged by her bank.

Epstein's death was ruled a suicide despite ongoing questions. Miami Herald journalist Julie K. Brown, whose reporting led to arrests of Epstein and accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell, called the development significant but criticized the DOJ's failure to thoroughly investigate.

Released FBI documents include an interview with a fellow inmate who reported hearing guards discussing covering up Epstein's death and other inmates claiming "Miss Noel killed Jeffrey."

Brown noted the DOJ failed to pursue these leads, raising questions about investigative oversight and potential corruption at the Metropolitan Correctional Center.
