Major M1 motorway closes in both directions after a ‘police incident’

The M1 motorway has been closed in both directions in Derbyshire this morning after an ongoing incident.

The major motorway is currently closed in both directions within J29A near Staveley due to an ongoing incident involving Derbyshire Police, National Highways has said.

They’ve added that traffic officers are on scene to assist with strategic closures and re-routing for traffic.

National Highways wrote on X: ‘Due to an ongoing Derbyshire Police led incident, the M1 is now closed northbound between J29 Chesterfield and J29A near Staveley, with the southbound remaining closed within J29A.

‘Traffic Officers are on scene to assist with strategic closures on the approach at this stage.’
