Iran arrests 20 in northwest over alleged spying for Israel

Iranian media reported that authorities have arrested 20 people in the country’s northwest on suspicion of collaborating with Israel. The arrests were carried out in West Azerbaijan Province during the third week of the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States.

According to Tasnim News Agency, the suspects are accused of sending detailed information about the locations of Iranian military, police and security facilities to Israel. Authorities say the information may have been used to assist Israeli strikes.

A statement from the provincial prosecutor’s office said several espionage networks linked to what it called the “Zionist regime” had been dismantled. Officials added that the 20 individuals were detained following judicial orders as part of an ongoing security investigation.

The arrests come after Reuters reported last week that Israel’s latest phase of attacks on Iran relied partly on intelligence gathered by local informants to target security posts and sensitive facilities.

The war between Iran, Israel and the United States has now entered its third week, with both sides carrying out missile and air strikes across multiple locations in the Middle East. Several Iranian military sites and parts of the country’s missile infrastructure have reportedly been hit in precision attacks.

In response, Iran has launched retaliatory strikes against targets linked to the United States and Israel across the region, including military bases and strategic facilities. The exchanges have heightened fears of a broader regional conflict and led to mounting casualties and infrastructure damage.

The situation remains volatile as the conflict continues to escalate, with security crackdowns inside Iran and ongoing military exchanges signaling that the confrontation may persist in the coming weeks.
