Timothée Chalamet Almost Skipped Oscars Red Carpet Amid Backlash

After a poorly worded comment about ballet and opera (are we really still mad about this?), powerhouse actor Timothée Chalamet was, according to some rumors, feeling concerned about walking the red carpet at the 2026 Oscars. According to a rumor published by The Globe, "Timothée doesn’t want the first part of the night spent explaining those comments to reporters."

According to the Naughty But Nice Substack, Chalamet's ultimate decision to actually walk the red carpet was a "last-minute decision." Ultimately, the actor did walk the red carpet in an all-white suit, with a white tie, wearing sunglasses.

Conan O'Brien's opening monologue even joked that security was tight because of concerns about "attacks from the ballet and opera communities."

The 2026 Oscars are airing on ABC and are streaming on Hulu. Chalamet is up for best actor in the 2025 film Marty Supreme, directed by Josh Safdie. Chalamet's excellent performance in the film is a fictionalization of the real-life ping-pong player Marty Reisman.

It's unclear at this time if Chalamet will win best actor for his incredible performance in this film, but even if he doesn't, the film is amazing. Did Chalamet deserve all the backlash for his comments about ballet and opera? Maybe, maybe not, but years from now, Marty Supreme will still exist, and the 2026 Oscars might be a distant memory.

Marty Supreme is available to rent on YouTube and elsewhere.
