Reuters reported that the United States embassy in Iraq came under a missile and drone attack early Tuesday, citing Iraqi security sources.

According to the report, missiles and at least five drones were launched toward the embassy compound in Baghdad, triggering air defense responses.

Iraqi officials said two drones were intercepted by air defense systems, while another struck inside the embassy, causing visible smoke and fire.

Loud explosions were heard across Baghdad during the attack, raising alarm among residents in the capital. Security sources indicated that Iran-backed armed groups in Iraq were likely behind the attack, amid escalating regional tensions.

Such attacks have increased since the start of US and Israeli strikes linked to Iran, with armed groups repeatedly targeting American facilities in Iraq.

Gulf states have reportedly urged the United States to take stronger action to neutralize Iran’s regional influence, warning that continued escalation threatens broader Middle East stability.

The latest attack underscores the growing risk of a wider regional conflict, as tensions involving Iran, the US, and its allies continue to intensify across multiple fronts.
