Herat Traders Donate AFN 15 Million to War-Affected People in Iran
Herat traders have donated AFN 15 million to support war-affected people in Iran, with Afghanistan’s private sector humanitarian efforts expected to continue.
National traders in Afghanistan’s western Herat province have jointly donated 15 million Afghanis to support people in Iran affected by the recent war, local business officials said.
The Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment said the aid package was formally handed over to the Iranian Consulate in Herat as a gesture of solidarity with families harmed by the conflict.
Mohammad Younus Qazizada, head of the chamber, said the money was collected by traders and the private sector. He said the assistance was delivered on Saturday through the Herat provincial administration and the Iranian consulate, adding that further support efforts are ongoing.
Iranian officials in Herat welcomed the gesture, saying Afghanistan and Iran have always stood by one another in difficult times and understand each other’s hardships. They also said many residents and groups in Herat had expressed readiness to help rebuild schools and health centers in Iran.
Officials from the Herat Chamber also said the Iranian people have repeatedly supported Afghans during times of crisis, and that this latest contribution reflects a long tradition of mutual humanitarian support between the two neighboring countries.
The aid comes amid the fallout from recent US and Israeli strikes on Iran, which have reportedly left many civilians affected and caused damage in several areas. Afghanistan’s traders say their support is aimed at easing some of the suffering caused by the conflict.
The donation highlights how Afghanistan’s private sector is increasingly taking part in regional humanitarian efforts, while also underlining the close social, economic and geographic ties between Herat and neighboring Iran.
