Jessica Simpson Responds to Rumor of Her $1,000 Tanning Routine

Jessica Simpson is setting the record straight on an old rumor.

The 45-year-old singer and actress was asked about the story claiming she spent $1,000 a week on tanning as part of a million-dollar beauty routine.

“No, $1,000? Gosh. I’d rather have lain out in the sun,” Jessica told Elle in a new interview published Thursday (April 2).

However, she admitted it might depend on if you factored in going on vacation with the budget, like when she was filming The Dukes of Hazzard. In the 2005 movie, Jessica played Daisy Duke and as she says, “was damn near naked the whole time,” so she had to be tan for the four-month shoot.

“The only way to be confident then when shooting was to spray it, and do body makeup,” she explained. “But I also didn’t want it to be too orange, so I had to have a base tan. It was all thought out.”

She continued, “I used to be the type of person that would put an SPF 15 on my stomach, but I would put an SPF 50 on my knees because I didn’t want them to wrinkle. I would do that math in my head.”

The “With You” singer clarified that she likes to get tan “in a healthy way,” which for her means laying out with friends in the sun and flipping around “like rotisserie chicken,” she joked.

“But for the most part, now we all take turns spraying each other down. I’ve never been that person who is terrified to be out in the sun because of wrinkles. It just happens and is a part of life,” Jessica concluded.
