The defense for Sen. Bob Menendez has rested without the New Jersey Democrat testifying at his New York bribery trial. Lawyers for Menendez called several witnesses over two days in an effort to counter seven weeks of testimony and hundreds of exhibits and communications introduced by federal prosecutors. Menendez maintains he is not guilty of charges that he accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in gold and cash in exchange for using his clout in the Senate to deliver favors to the benefit of three New Jersey businessmen. A former engineer at a U.S. military air logistics center is charged with making false statements and obstructing justice during a criminal investigation into a 2017 military plane crash in Mississippi that killed 16 service members. Israel Assassinates Second Senior Hezbollah Commander

An Israeli drone targeted a car east of the city of Tyre on Wednesday, killing a senior Hezbollah commander and severely injuring a second man who later died as a result.

Mohammed Naameh Nasser, known as Abu Naameh, was the commander of the Aziz Unit which is responsible for the western sector of southern Lebanon.

He held a position equal to that of Taleb Sami Abdullah, known as Abu Taleb, who was assassinated two weeks ago.

Lightning strike blamed for wildfire that killed 2 people in New Mexico, damaged 1,400 structures

Authorities say a lightning strike caused the larger of two wildfires that has killed at least two people and destroyed or damaged more than 1,400 structures in New Mexico. The South Fork Fire was first reported June 17 on the Mescalero Apache Reservation and forced the evacuation of the Village of Ruidoso.
