Kazakhstan bans energy drink sales to teenagers

Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan has officially banned the sale of energy drinks to teenagers. The new law is already signed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Kazakhstan has made changes to health protection and state control laws. The updated legislation prohibits the sale of energy drinks to people under 21, that aims to protect the health of growing generation.

According to the law, energy drinks are defined as "non-alcoholic and low-alcohol beverages containing caffeine and caffeine-rich plants (plant extracts), taurine, guarana, mate, medicinal plants and their extracts that have a tonic effect, sugar, minerals, easily digestible carbohydrates, vitamins, vitamin-like substances, substrates, and energy metabolism stimulants. These ingredients can negatively affect the human body when consumed excessively, except for coffee and tea."

The law comes into force 60 days after its first official publication.
