Three cholera cases imported to Kazakhstan from India

Tengrinews.kz - Three cases of cholera have been reported in Kazakhstan this year, according to Zauresh Akhmetova, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Control of the Ministry of Health. This was announced during a briefing at the Central Communications Service in Astana.
Akhmetova noted that no local cases of cholera have been registered in Kazakhstan in the past 10 years. However, imported cases are recorded annually.

"This year we have registered three imported cases of cholera from India by citizens of Russia and Kyrgyzstan on a tourist trip to India," told Akhmetova

The sanitary and epidemiological service conducted preventive, epidemiological, and disinfection measures on the aircraft. They also carried out awareness activities with those who were in contact with the patients, as well as with passengers and airport staff. A total of 594 individuals who had been in contact with the infected passengers were examined.

"104 close contacts received antibiotics. The measures taken allowed us to prevent the disease among the contacts," Akhmetova added.

Later, answering a journalist's question, the deputy head of the Health Ministry's Sanitary Control Committee said that the infected passengers arrived on different flights at different times.
