More than 150 people died in India due to landslides

Tengrinews.kz - More than 150 people have died and about 186 others injured when landslides collapsed in India during yesterday's heavy rainfall, citing Ndtv.com.

The actual number of deaths and injuries could be much higher.

"Hundreds more people are believed to be trapped and government agencies are carrying out rescue operations in the affected areas," Indian media wrote.

The army has successfully evacuated more than 1,000 people from the affected areas.

500-600 people are involved in the rescue operations, and military helicopters have also been deployed.

"As soon as the weather conditions improve, we will start airlifting people in distress," Brigadier Arjun Sigan said.

The Indian state of Kerala is suffering from incessant rains. In 24 hours, 372 mm of rain fell in the state and three landslides triggered in four hours in Wayanad district.
