Indian tourist was charged 77,000 tenge for taxi ride in Almaty

Tengrinews.kz - An Indian tourist complained about a taxi driver in Almaty who charged her 77,000 tenge for a ride from the airport to the city. The case became known through social media.
According to Indian blogger Komal Maheshwari, she arrived in Almaty late at night and couldn’t find any kiosks selling SIM cards at the airport. Unable to connect to the local Wi-Fi and use a taxi-hailing service, she encountered a man in the airport who politely offered to take her for 1,000 tenge. However, when she arrived at her destination, the taxi driver demanded 77,000 tenge. The tourist claims that the driver behaved aggressively, which frightened her significantly. As a result, she paid him 30,000 tenge for the ride from the airport.
