Kazakhstanis urged to look at the dollar rate “through the mathematician's glasses“

Tengrinews.kz - The Chairman of the National Bank Timur Suleimenov urged Kazakhstanis to look at the dollar exchange rate "through the glasses of a mathematician."
During the briefing, journalists asked Suleimenov about the sharp price changes in Kazakhstan due to the growth of the dollar exchange rate.

"I want to emphasize once again that we should not fixate too much on the figure of 500. 498 and 495 - the rate has been standing for us for about three weeks, probably. It is currently at the level of 507. Let's calculate: 497, 498 and 507, the difference is 10 tenge. 10 tenge to 500 is 2%. I understand that 500 is a psychological figure. But if you look through the glasses of a mathematician, an economist, even a businessman, the change is 2%," he said.

The head of the National Bank also called on Kazakhstanis not to worry too much about the rise in the dollar exchange rate.

"A 2% change is understandable, I would like it to be the other way around, but the market decided otherwise. Therefore, this 2% weakening of the tenge over the past three weeks will probably have an effect in some way. But, naturally, not in such a panic-like way. Therefore, I would not worry too much about prices changing instantly, especially for food products. We are self-sufficient in them, in almost everything," said Timur Suleimenov.
