Kazakhstan citizens sentenced for involvement in Syrian combat operations

Tengrinews.kz - Two citizens of Kazakhstan have been convicted for their participation in combat operations in Syria, citing the National Security Committee (NSC).
According to the NSC, judicial proceedings on criminal cases involving the two individuals have concluded.

"They were members of terrorist organizations in Syria from 2020 to 2022. Following operations conducted in cooperation with international partners, they were located abroad, brought back to Kazakhstan, and detained," the statement reads.

One of the individuals, a resident of the Turkestan region, was found guilty of participating in a terrorist group’s activities (Article 257 of Kazakhstan’s Criminal Code). The other, a resident of Atyrau, was convicted of the same offense as well as undergoing terrorist training abroad (Article 260).
Both individuals have received varying prison sentences, and the verdicts are now final.
Earlier, the NSC announced the extradition of a Kazakh citizen from Turkey suspected of involvement in terrorist activities.
