The first reports that the plane flying from Baku to Grozny requested an emergency landing in Aktau appeared at 11:20 A.M.
According to the press service of the Grozny airport, the reason for the change in route was thick fog. The plane was first redirected to Makhachkala, and then to Aktau.
Initially, it was reported that the plane made a hard landing, but later it was confirmed that the aircraft had crashed.
According to media reports, the cause of the crash was a bird strike.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, there were 67 people on board the plane, including 5 crew members.
As reported by the Health Department of the Mangystau Region, 12 people (one of them a child) with various injuries were taken to the regional hospital from the crash site.
By this time, rescuers have extinguished the fire at the plane crash site in Aktau.
On this matter, President Tokayev expressed his condolences.
