Serious incident reported in Kazakhstan’s airspace

Tengrinews.kz — A serious aviation incident occurred in the skies over Kazakhstan on January 10.
According to the Ministry of Transport, two passenger aircraft dangerously approached each other while flying in the area controlled by air traffic controllers in Shymkent. The incident involved an Airbus A320 operated by Uzbekistan Airways and a Boeing 737-800 operated by Pobeda.

“On January 10, at around 05:42 Astana time, in the area of responsibility of sector A2I of the Shymkent regional air traffic control center, an aviation incident occurred while servicing flight PBD997 on the Vnukovo–Samarkand route operated by Pobeda Airlines and flight UZB9609 on the Termez–Moscow route operated by Uzbekistan Airways,” the Ministry of Transport said.

Officials emphasized that the event has been classified as a serious aviation incident, which requires a mandatory investigation by the authorized body.

“The Ministry is forming a commission to investigate the serious aviation incident. The investigation period, from the issuance of the order appointing the commission to the approval of the final report, as a rule does not exceed three months, unless additional research or work is required,” the ministry added.
