Pierre Gasly, Alpine (Did not start, gearbox): 5/10
We'll give Pierre Gasly a default median score as we're short on any performance data to analyse. He spun out without setting a lap time in final practice and as a result ended up unable to put in a decent time in qualifying, finishing slowest of all. He already had a massive grid drop penalty for taking new engine components, and then on race day he took to pit lane at the end of the formation lap and never came back out, the team citing a gearbox issue on the Alpine. A wretched weekend on multiple levels.

George Russell, Mercedes (Pole, Lap 33, Water system): 8.5/10
It was a brilliant Saturday for George Russell, who was quickest in final practice and then converted that to a magnificent pole-winning performance in qualifying to lead a trio of Brits at the front of the grid for Sunday's race, a truly historic moment in the sport. He did well in the race, at least until the first rain shower arrived. Both Mercedes then struggled for grip and ended up making mistakes that allowed the two McLarens to take charge of the race. Russell was in fourth after the first pit stops and still plotting his way back on to the podium when the Mercedes pit wall delivered a death sentence for the car.
