Extra day off in August for Kazakhstan’s Constitution Day

Constitution Day is one of the main public holidays in Kazakhstan. On this day, the country celebrates the adoption in 1995 of the basic law that defines the legal and political foundations of the state. The holiday is celebrated annually on 30 August.

Weekend schedule in August 2024

Five-day work week

For those who have a five-day work week, an extra day off on Constitution Day will provide a three-day weekend. Friday, 30 August will be a day off and citizens will be able to enjoy an extended holiday until Sunday, 1st September. In total, a five-day working week will result in 10 days off in August.

Six-day working week

Those who work six days a week will also be able to take an extra day off on Friday. In this case, Saturday, 31 August, will be a working day, and Sunday, 1 September, will again be a day off. Thus, Kazakhstanis working on a six-day working week will have only 5 days off in August.

In addition to Constitution Day, a number of other significant dates are celebrated in Kazakhstan in August:

4 August (first Sunday of August) - Transport Workers' Day;

10 August - Abai Day;

11 August (second Sunday of August) - Builder's Day;

18 August - Border Guard Day;

25 August (last Sunday of August) - Miner's Day;

29 August - Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site Closure Day.
