Bishimbayev's current location revealed by his lawyer
Tengrinews.kz - The lawyer of the former Minister of National Economy Kuandyk Bishimbayev, Erlan Gazymzhanov, commented on information circulating in the media claiming his client is not in the correctional facility.
According to Gazymzhanov, Bishimbayev is serving his sentence in a maximum-security facility in Stepnogorsk.
"He is in the same conditions as everyone else. Just normal conditions, with no privileges," Gazymzhanov told a Tengrinews.kz correspondent.
The lawyer mentioned that he is currently the only person who visits Bishimbayev in the facility.
“These rumors started because the media published a film using wording that gave the impression Bishimbayev was not serving his sentence. I believe they did this on purpose. Furthermore, they did not invite me for an interview, even though I am the only one who visits him in the facility,” the lawyer added.
Reminder: On May 13, the trial in the case of the murder of Saltanat Nukenova concluded in Astana. Former Minister of National Economy Kuandyk Bishimbayev was found guilty of torturing and murdering his wife and was sentenced to 24 years in prison.
His brother, Bakhytzhan Baizhanov, was found guilty of concealing the crime and sentenced to four years in prison.
Earlier, reports surfaced online claiming that Bishimbaev could not be located in any Kazakhstani prison colonies. Some journalists speculated that he might be serving his sentence in Stepnogorsk or Arshaly, though media outlets were unable to confirm this. Later, Telegram channels began circulating rumors that he had supposedly escaped from a correctional facility. The Committee of Criminal Executive System refuted this information, stating that it is “not true.” According to the press service, the convict is serving his sentence in a maximum-security facility.
A criminal case has been initiated over the spread of false information on social media.
