Hazardous air alert: Smog to cover Astana and Almaty

Tengrinews.kz - Kazhydromet has issued a warning about unfavorable meteorological conditions leading to air pollution in Astana, Almaty, and six other cities across Kazakhstan.

"On December 4, 2024, unfavorable weather conditions for air pollution are expected in Astana, Almaty, Kyzylorda, Shymkent, Atyrau, Pavlodar, Temirtau, and Karaganda," the statement reads.

These conditions result from a combination of short-term meteorological factors, including still air, light winds, fog, and temperature inversions, which contribute to the accumulation of harmful pollutants near the ground level.
Earlier, forecasters clarified the weather outlook for the winter of 2024-2025 in Kazakhstan. While temperatures are expected to remain within climatic norms, precipitation levels may exceed the long-term average. However, periods of dry weather and unusually low temperatures are also anticipated.
