Ashimbayev: “The Presidents' instructions are the main priority“
Tengrinews.kz - Socio-economic development of regions, expansion of scientific and educational contacts and strengthening of inter-parliamentary cooperation. These topics were discussed today in Astana by the Senate Speaker Maulen Ashimbayev with his colleague - the Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matviyenko.
"The Senate, like the Federation Council, is a chamber representing the interests of the country's regions. Therefore, it is especially important for us to ensure conditions for the progressive socio-economic development of the regions. On November 27, the 20th Forum of Interregional Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia was held in Ufa, in which the heads of our states took part via video link. A large-scale Program of Interregional and Cross-Border Cooperation for 2024-2028 was adopted, which includes about 150 joint events and projects. It is important for parliamentarians to join the implementation of this important program. Specific issues could be discussed within the framework of our joint commission," said Maulen Ashimbayev.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to the importance of strengthening cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere. In particular, the need to develop educational and scientific contacts, which play a fundamental role in the system of international relations, was discussed.
"On the eve of the 180th anniversary of Abai, a bust of the outstanding Kazakh poet and educator was erected in Kazan, and the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow hosted a performance of the opera ‘Abai’ in the Kazakh language. Cooperation in the field of education is actively developing. By decision of the Presidents of our countries, a branch of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University will be opened in Omsk, which will become the first representative office of a Kazakh university in Russia. In the near future, there are plans to open a branch of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) on the basis of the Gumilyov Eurasian National University in Astana," Maulen Ashimbayev emphasized.
Following the negotiations in the Senate, a Plan of Practical Measures for the Development of Interparliamentary Cooperation for 2025-2027 was signed, as well as an Agreement on Cooperation between the Offices of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia.
