Police and NSC crack down on internet fraud in Karaganda region

Tengrinews.kz - Law enforcement agencies in the Karaganda region, including cyber police, the Department for Combating Cybercrime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), and the National Security Committee (NSC), conducted a joint operation against internet fraud. The operation was coordinated by the regional prosecutor’s office.
Two residents of Temirtau, aged 34 and 36, were arrested. The suspects are accused of illegally modifying mobile device identification codes and creating, using, and distributing software for these purposes.
According to police, the suspects rented an apartment where they set up specialized equipment and visited the location every ten days to replace SIM cards.
During the raid, police seized 232 SIM cards and two sets of SIM-box equipment used for fraudulent activities.
A criminal investigation is underway to establish the full extent of their illegal operations and identify possible accomplices.
In another case, a 30-year-old resident of Karaganda was detained for defrauding residents by offering fake assistance with social benefits and driver’s licenses. He allegedly registered online loans in the names of his victims and has been linked to 11 cases. Investigators are working to determine his involvement in other similar crimes.

Earlier, the NSC provided an update on its efforts to combat transnational and regional criminal groups.
