World’s hardest-working countries ranked: Where does Kazakhstan stand?
Tengrinews.kz – The International Labour Organization (ILO) has released its 2025 ranking of countries by average weekly working hours. According to the report, people in Kazakhstan spend noticeably less time at work than in many neighboring countries.
How many hours do people work in Kazakhstan?
The study shows that the average Kazakhstani works 37.97 hours per week.
There is also a difference between men and women:
Men: 39.37 hours per week
Women: 36.48 hours per week
The figures are based on actual hours worked and include both employees and the self-employed.
Countries with the shortest working weeks
Among the countries with the shortest average working weeks is Yemen, where people work just 25.89 hours per week on average. Men work 26.42 hours, while women work 18.03 hours.
In Netherlands, the average is 26.77 hours (30.44 hours for men and 22.65 hours for women).
In Norway, people work 27.10 hours per week on average (29.45 for men and 24.48 for women).
In Austria, the figure is 28.41 hours (32.07 for men and 24.28 for women).
In Denmark, the average working week is 28.75 hours (31.23 for men and 25.97 for women).

Where do people work the longest hours?
The longest average working week was recorded in Bhutan, at 54.49 hours per week (55.03 for men and 53.68 for women).
In Sudan, the average is 50.76 hours (51.90 for men and 45.70 for women).
In Lesotho, people work 50.20 hours per week on average.
In the Republic of the Congo, the figure is 48.73 hours.
In the United Arab Emirates, the average working week stands at 48.36 hours, with men working 48.33 hours on average.
