Although considered a pest of cereals, this insect does not cause serious damage in flour mills and storage facilities. As it feeds mainly on decomposing material, its presence is a sign of poor plant hygiene. Flour or cereals infested by this beetle often have a bad odor. By feeding, this insect helps to recycle decomposing organic matter.
