Artsakh leadership visits Yerablur pantheon
ArmInfo. Today, May 9, President of the Republic of Artsakh Samvel Shahramanyan visited the Yerablur military pantheon and laid a wreath at the Memorial Wall, perpetuating the courage of the brave sons of the Armenian people who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of the Motherland.
Shahramanyan was accompanied by members of the Artsakh government, deputies of the Artsakh National Assembly, clergy, including the rector of Dadivank, Father Hovhannes.
On May 8, 1992, the operation "Wedding in the Mountains" was launched to liberate Shushi. During this operation, Armenian self-defense troops established control over the city of Shushi, which was populated mainly by Azerbaijanis after the pogrom of Armenians in 1918. The Armenian military command had long considered the possibility of taking the city, since Azerbaijani shelling of the urban infrastructure of Stepanakert from Shushi (the distance between the cities is 5 km) for six months led to hundreds of casualties among the Armenian civilian population and massive destruction of buildings, including residential buildings, schools, and a silk factory and maternity hospital.
