Heeramandi on Netflix: Shekhar Suman strongly slams Sharmin Segal's aka Alamzeb's incessant trolling

Post the release of Heeramandi, Sharmin Segal who played Alamzeb received major criticism for her acting skills. Shekhar Suman has come out in support of her.

Heeramandi helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali started streaming on Netflix on May 1. The web series that received major applause from the industry got a lot of criticism from the audience. Despite all of it, Heeramandi tasted success as it became one of the most-watched Hindi web series on the OTT platform. Sharmin Segal who plays the role of Alamzeb in the web series was targeted the most by the trolls. She suffered incessant trolling as people commented on her acting skills. She also became a target as she happens to be Sanjay Leela Bhansali's niece. Now, Shekhar Suman has extended his support and slammed trolls targeting her.

In an interview with Etimes, Shekhar Suman said that Sharmin Segal just happens to be Sanjay Leela Bhansali's niece and has done films in the past. He believes that the filmmaker would have taken cognizance of the same that it could have had an adverse effect. Shekhar Suman feels that the audience was too harsh on Sharmin and it could destroy her. "People can go a little easy instead of calling her names where she was forced to disable her comments. She said she auditioned 16 times for Heeramandi, so let's be fair to him, that he cast her," he said.

Shekhar Suman further added that he feels that the actress did a good job playing Alamzeb. "I think all characters don't have to behave the same way, react the same way," he said. Shekhar Suman gave the example of the scene where Alamzeb is revealed about Tajdaar's demise. She keeps a straight face as Shekhar Suman believes that when in shock, people generally don't know how to react.

Talking about Heeramandi, the web series is about the war between the two courtesans who want to be rule the Shahi Mahal. Manisha Koirala and Sonakshi Sinha are opposite each other. Other actors like Sanjeeda Shaikh, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Taha Shah Badussa, Adhyayan Suman and Fardeen Khan have pivotal roles to play in the web series.
