YEREVAN, June 17. /ARKA/. The Yerevan city hall and transportation specialists from France’s Ile-de-France region are designing a new public transport network for the Armenian capital, city official Armen Arutyunyan revealed on Monday./pp “We analyzed our public transportation network and the city’s roads. Our colleagues from France say that bus lanes are vital for the city,” he said./pp

Arutyunyan also added that despite bus lanes being present in some areas of the city, Yerevan needs them on every major street as the city’s roads are becoming more and more busy each year./pp “[More bus lanes] is so obvious, it’s a no brainer. It’s a solution that does not even need to be discussed with the city residents. If we don’t introduce more bus lanes, the city is going to be paralyzed one day, as simple as that,” Yerevan mayor Tigran Avinyan said./pp

Avinyan believes the bus lanes project will need to go through several stages. First, the bus lanes need to be indicated with paint, then cameras need to be installed, and then the bus lanes will need to be physically separated from the rest of the roadway, similar to how it is in Paris./pp

Avinyan also called on Yerevan’s residents to choose public transportation over personal cars. He said “life is getting significantly better” for the users of public transportation and pointed out that the city hall is expecting 171 new buses and 15 new trolleybuses shortly.nbsp;/p br br
