EU ambassador on extent of EU-Armenia relations
ArmInfo. The head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Vassilis Maragos, believes that the EU observer mission has already produced very concrete results, and its presence in the country shows how far the European Union is ready to go in developing relations with Armenia. Maragos stated this on July 3 during the conference "Armenia-Eastern Partnership-EU: Challenges and Opportunities".
Thus, touching on the sustainability of Armenia, Maragos noted that, in his opinion, we are talking about the sustainability of society, economy and institutions. "More than 600 million euros have already been invested in Armenia, and we are moving towards the implementation of infrastructure projects that have been planned for a long time, but now, I think, they are becoming a reality," the diplomat said.
In his opinion, speaking about strengthening sustainability, it is necessary to mention the EU's support for peace in the region and the settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.
In this vein, as Maragos pointed out, the role of the Eastern Partnership is also important, but the South Caucasus has its own specific characteristics when it comes to Armenia, Turkey and Azerbaijan, as well as Armenia-Georgia relations.
"The European Union, yes, uses its instruments, perhaps not always very effectively, because it also depends on the behavior of these partners," said the head of the EU delegation. Nevertheless, Vasilis Maragos noted, the EU is making every effort to support the establishment of communications in the region and an international order based on law.
