Classic Reborn: BMW Unveils All-New R 12 nineT and R 12 for India

BMW Motorrad has launched two new motorcycles in India, the R 12 nineT and the R 12. Both models offer a classic design and cater to different riding styles.

The R 12 nineT embodies a retro roadster aesthetic, while the R 12 leans towards a casual cruiser style. Both share a new tubular space frame design that contributes to a lighter weight and cleaner look. Powering both the R 12 nineT and R 12 is a classic air/oil-cooled boxer engine with a displacement of 1,170 cc. The R 12 nineT puts out a bit more muscle, delivering 80 kW (109 hp) at 7,000 rpm, while the R 12 produces 70 kW (95 hp) at 6,500 rpm.

Features

Both motorcycles utilize a tubular bridge steel space frame for a lightweight and clean design. Up front, upside-down telescopic forks handle suspension duties, while the rear features a Paralever swinging arm. The R 12 nineT’s rear suspension boasts a diagonally angled spring strut for a unique ride characteristic. Braking performance comes courtesy of twin discs upfront and a single disc in the rear, all working in conjunction with standard ABS Pro. Safety is further enhanced by Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), engine drag torque control, and Tyre Pressure Control.

R 12 nineT – A Ride for Purists

This roadster boasts a brushed aluminum tank, a dynamic line with a rising tail-hump, and a compact rear end. The ergonomics have been improved compared to its predecessor, offering a more front-oriented seating position. Standard features include a Headlight Pro system, Keyless Ride, and Riding Modes (“Rain”, “Road”, and “Dynamic”).

R 12 – Embrace the Cruiser Spirit

The R 12 evokes classic cruiser design with a teardrop-shaped steel tank reminiscent of 1970s models. It has a relaxed seating position with a lower seat height and wide handlebars. The instrument cluster features a single round display, and the turn indicators are integrated into the rear fender. The standard Riding Modes for the R 12 are “Roll” and “Rock.”

Focus on Detail and Customization

Both models showcase BMW’s attention to detail, evident in the intricate front fender bracket and LED lighting. A variety of color options are available, and an optional Comfort package adds features like Hill Start Control Pro, Shift Assistant Pro, heated grips, and cruise control.
