Bajaj Auto Ltd. has unveiled the Freedom 125, the world’s first commercially available CNG-powered motorcycle. This innovation aims to disrupt the two-wheeler industry by offering a potentially more economical and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional petrol motorcycles.

Reduced Operating Costs and Extended Range

The Bajaj Freedom boasts a dual-fuel system with a 2kg CNG tank and a 2-liter auxiliary petrol tank. This combination is claimed to deliver a combined riding range of approximately 330 kilometers. Compared to similar petrol motorcycles, Bajaj claims the Freedom offers up to a 50% reduction in operating costs due to the lower price of CNG fuel.

Comfort and Safety Features

The Freedom integrates the CNG tank and kit within a trellis chassis, prioritizing safety through rigorous testing. The motorcycle features a rider-friendly seat height of 825mm and a narrow mid-section for easy maneuverability. Despite the CNG tank, weight-saving measures aim to maintain a center of gravity similar to petrol motorcycles, ensuring rider comfort and control. Additionally, a mono-linked suspension system is designed to offer a smoother ride on various terrains.

Multiple Variants and Availability

The Bajaj Freedom comes in three variants: Freedom 125 NG04 Disc LED, Freedom 125 NG04 Drum LED, and Freedom 125 NG04 Drum. Prices start from ₹ 95,000 (Ex-Showroom Delhi) and increase with variant features. The motorcycle comes in five color options: Ebony Black, Caribbean Blue, Cyber White, Racing Red, and Pewter Grey. Bookings are expected to be open through Bajaj’s website and dealerships.

Environmental Impact

Bajaj highlights Freedom’s potential contribution to a greener future. CNG combustion is claimed to produce approximately 26.7% less CO2 emissions compared to petrol, along with reductions in other pollutants.

Bajaj’s Legacy of Innovation

The launch of Freedom aligns with Bajaj’s history of introducing pioneering products. The company mentions its role in launching India’s first sports motorcycle (Pulsar), CNG three-wheeler (Bajaj RE), and electric scooter (Chetak).

Industry Response and Future Potential

The market’s response to the Bajaj Freedom and its impact on the two-wheeler landscape remains to be seen. However, Freedom’s potential for cost savings and reduced emissions could be a significant factor for budget-conscious and environmentally-conscious riders.
