Mercedes-Benz India has unveiled its latest electric offering, the EQA, marking the brand’s most affordable foray into the Indian EV market. Priced at Rs 66 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom), the EQA joins the existing EQB, EQE, and EQS models in Mercedes’ electric vehicle lineup. Bookings are open now, with deliveries scheduled to begin in January 2025.

Exterior Design

The EQA borrows design cues from its electric siblings, featuring distinctive smoked headlights with an LED light bar, a blanked-off grille adorned with Mercedes’ signature three-pointed stars, and sleek connected taillights. Functional air vents integrated into the bumper help cool the battery pack, while 19-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels complete the sporty look.

Sustainable Luxury Interior

Inside, the EQA carries over the familiar Mercedes dashboard layout, but with unique EV touches. Illuminated stars and copper-colored accents highlight the electric nature of the car. The seats are upholstered in a sustainable PET material, and the rear layout features a redesigned center armrest and a 40:20:40 split-folding backrest for added versatility.

Performance

The India-spec EQA boasts a 70.5kWh battery pack powering a front-mounted electric motor that generates a healthy 190hp and 385Nm of torque. This translates to a 0-100 km/h sprint in 8.6 seconds and a top speed of 160 km/h. The EQA offers an impressive WLTP-certified range of up to 560 km on a single charge.

The EQA supports both AC and DC fast charging. A standard 11kW AC charger will fully charge the battery in 7 hours and 15 minutes, while a 100kW DC fast charger can take the battery from 10-80% in just 35 minutes.

Feature-Rich Technology

The EQA comes loaded with features like a 360-degree camera, a head-up display, gesture control, dual-zone climate control, an electrically adjustable tailgate, four drive modes, a panoramic sunroof, a dual 10.25-inch screen infotainment system, and seven airbags for enhanced safety.

Competition

As the most affordable Mercedes EV in India, the EQA is poised to compete with established players like the Volvo XC40 Recharge, Volvo C40 Recharge, BMW iX1, and Kia EV6 in the luxury electric vehicle segment.
