Ducati India has launched the highly anticipated Hypermotard 698 Mono, priced at Rs 16.50 lakh (ex-showroom). This marks the arrival of Ducati’s first single-cylinder motorcycle in over 30 years, and it boasts the title of the most powerful single-cylinder engine in the world.

While the Hypermotard 698 Mono carries a hefty price tag compared to its larger sibling, the Hypermotard 950 RVE (Rs 50,000 less), there’s a reason behind it. The 698 Mono is a Completely Built Unit (CBU) import, attracting full duty. Additionally, its engine capacity falls under 800cc, disqualifying it from benefits under the Indo-Thai Free Trade Agreement.

Powerhouse Performance

Despite the higher price point, the Hypermotard 698 Mono offers a unique proposition. At its heart lies the 659cc, liquid-cooled Superquadro Mono engine, churning out 77.5 bhp and 63 Nm of torque. A six-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch ensures smooth power delivery, with an optional quickshifter available for those seeking an even sportier ride.

Aggressive Design and Advanced Features

The Hypermotard 698 Mono borrows design cues from its larger sibling, sporting a similar LED headlight with a prominent beak, a slim fuel tank, and a sleek tail section. Twin exhaust pipes positioned under the tail add to the aggressive aesthetic. Ducati equips the machine with a comprehensive suite of features, including three power modes, cornering ABS, four riding modes, traction control, and wheelie control. All these functions are accessible through a user-friendly 3.8-inch LCD instrument cluster.

The motorcycle utilizes a steel trellis frame for a balance of rigidity and weight. Suspension duties are handled by adjustable Marzocchi USD forks at the front and a Sachs monoshock at the rear. Braking performance comes courtesy of a 330mm disc upfront and a 245mm disc at the back.

Availability

Ducati has begun accepting bookings for the Hypermotard 698 Mono in India, with deliveries slated for later this month. This powerful single-cylinder machine boasts a unique combination of performance, style, and Ducati heritage. However, the price tag has raised eyebrows. It will be interesting to see how the market reacts to this premium offering.
