The couple first met in the 1970s at Trincas, a popular restaurant, despite Usha being married to Ramu at the time. Jani expressed his love for Usha, and they eventually formed a relationship. They have a son and daughter together.

Usha Uthup is renowned for her powerful voice and iconic songs such as "Dum Maaro Dum" and "Hare Rama Hare Krishna". She began her music career in 1969 at a small nightclub in Chennai, where her distinctive voice quickly gained popularity. Her talent led to performances at top nightclubs across India.

Notably, the late actor Dev Anand discovered her at a nightclub in Delhi and offered her a debut role in his 1971 film "Hare Rama Hare Krishna". This marked her entry into Bollywood, and she went on to establish herself as a celebrated singer, known for her memorable contributions to Indian music.
