But in initial days of her career, Vidya Balan was dubbed as 'unlucky and jinxed' after her film with Mohanlal got shelved. In one of the interviews with The Indian Express, Vidya Balan recollected the tough times stating that she went through a heartbreaking time due to all the struggles. She recalled that people who had signed her started to replace her in films without even letting her know. Two Malayalam films featuring her got shelved and that led to people in the industry believe that she was jinxed. She recalled, "It was about a dozen films that I was replaced in." Not just this, a Tamil producer even got her Kundali checked and stated that 'she was jinxed'. When her parents showed up at the producer's home, a comment was passed, asking 'Does she even look like a heroine.' Vidya Balan recalled the same saying, "That comment on my appearance was very damaging."

Vidya Balan also spoke about facing body-shaming and shared that it was a 'witch-hunt' of sorts. "Yes, there was a witch hunt, if I have to be honest. It came from a personal issue that someone was having with me. But it's okay. I am better for it today," she said.
