Following its Indian launch, Bajaj’s pioneering Freedom 125, the world’s first CNG motorcycle, targets expansion into six international markets with strong CNG infrastructure: Colombia, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Tanzania, and Peru.

India First, CNG-Ready Markets Next

“Our initial focus will be India, which is a massive market in itself,” said Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director at Bajaj Auto, acknowledging the limited global presence of CNG refueling networks. However, he identified several promising export destinations: “Places like Egypt, Tanzania, Peru, Colombia, Bangladesh, and Indonesia stand out.”

Domestic Rollout and Production Plans

The initial rollout of the Freedom 125 will prioritize states with strong CNG networks, like Maharashtra and Gujarat. Production is expected to start with a capacity of 10,000 units in the first few months, scaling up to 30,000-40,000 units by the year’s end.

Key Features and Performance

The Freedom 125 boasts a 2 kg CNG tank integrated beneath the spacious 785 mm seat. It also features a 2-litre auxiliary petrol tank, offering riders the flexibility to switch between fuels using a handlebar switch. Bajaj claims an impressive ARAI mileage of 101 kmpl per kg of CNG and 65 kmpl per litre of petrol. This translates to a potential range of over 330 km (202 km on CNG, 130 km on petrol).

Variant Differentiation and Bajaj’s Export History

The top variant of the Freedom 125 comes equipped with a negative LCD cluster featuring Bluetooth connectivity. Lower variants utilize a more basic LCD cluster.

Notably, Bajaj, India’s largest two-wheeler exporter, consistently ships 35-40% of its total production internationally, making them well-positioned for the Freedom 125’s global expansion.
