Yerevan expects UNESCO to take steps to protect Nagorno-Karabakh`s historical heritage
ArmInfo.On July 10, Aram Hakobyan, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to UNESCO, presented his credentials to Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO.
As reported by the press service of the RA MFA, during a private conversation following the ceremony, the interlocutors discussed prospects for expanding cooperation between UNESCO and Armenia, as well as a number of issues related to the priorities of the organization. The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia confirmed his readiness to make continuous efforts to implement the commitments undertaken by Armenia within the framework of its membership in the UNESCO Executive Board and the implementation of the program priorities of the Organization.
Touching upon the initiatives implemented by UNESCO in the direction of protecting cultural heritage, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia drew the attention of the Director General to the threats to the historical and cultural heritage of Nagorno-Karabakh and emphasized the importance of the expected active steps by UNESCO in addressing them. UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay congratulated the Permanent Representative of Armenia on taking office, wishing him success in the implementation of his responsible mission.
