YEREVAN, 17 July. /ARKA/. The Armenian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport intends to initiate the establishment of a network Armenian Studies University, Minister Zhanna Andreasyan said.

According to her, the initiative is aimed at establishing interconnection and cooperation among all these centres.

‘The development of Armenian studies is included in the government's priorities; there are separate programs financed from the state budget, which are implemented in different countries and universities as part of this initiave,’ she said at a press conference on Wednesday, adding that such centres operate in 15 universities of 12 countries.

The Minister also stressed the importance of discussing the idea at the World Congress of Armenologists.

The work of the congress will not be limited only to Yerevan, its participants will also visit the regions of the country, as well as places significant for Armenian studies,’ according to Andreasyan.

In his turn, Director of the Matenadaran Institute of Ancient Manuscripts Vahan Ter-Ghevondyan said that the main three-day discussions will be held in Matenadaran, and the awarding ceremony of three outstanding foreign scholars of Armenian studies will be held on 19 July.

According to him, an exclusive exhibition of manuscripts and valuable archival documents acquired during the year will be organised within the framework of the congress. -0-
