In a new interview, Vicky Kaushal got candid about the struggle his father, Sham Kaushal, faced before he came to Mumbai to work as an action director. The Sam Bahadur actor revealed that his father had contemplated ending his life as he was jobless in Punjab. That's when Vicky's grandfather sent Sham to Mumbai for a change of environment, and that's how his journey began in the industry.
Vicky Kaushal told Raj Shamani in the interview that his parents were quite pleased with the idea of him having a steady job. The actor shared that his grandfather owned a small grocery store in their village in Punjab, where his parents hail from. The Sanju Star mentioned that they didn't have any land there. His father, Sham Kaushal, came to Mumbai in 1978, and despite holding an MA in English literature, he struggled to find employment. One day, after a night of drinking with friends, Vicky's father, Sham, said that he wanted to end his life, which left his grandfather worried. Hence, his grandfather decided to send Sham to Mumbai.
The Raazi actor said that when his father, Sham Kaushal, came to Mumbai, he was ready to work, even as a sweeper, because no one from their village would know. His father's youth was full of struggles, especially in a job without security. Sham would worry about finding the next job while working on one project. Vicky mentioned that he isn't usually a risk-taker, even though he left engineering to become an actor. The actor's family was thrilled because they thought he would finally have a stable job with a steady income and regular days off. His father felt his struggles had finally paid off. However, Vicky knew he couldn't do a regular job. Even with excellent marks and an offer letter, he felt he would become depressed if he went ahead with it.

Currently, Vicky Kaushal is busy with the promotion of his upcoming romantic comedy, Bad Newz. Directed by Anand Tiwari, the film also stars Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk. Produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, the movie will hit theatres on July 19, 2024.
