Porsche Macan EV Gets Faster and More Affordable: RWD and 4S Variants Unleashed
Porsche broadens the appeal of its electric Macan lineup with the introduction of two new variants in India. The arrival of a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) model lowers the barrier to entry for this luxury electric SUV, while a new 4S option expands the performance spectrum.
More Options, More Accessibility
Earlier this year, Porsche launched the Macan EV in India with a sole Turbo trim. Now, the addition of the RWD variant addresses a key concern – affordability. This entry-level model boasts a starting price of Rs. 1.23 crore, making the electric Macan more accessible to a wider range of buyers.
Powertrains and Performance Tailored for Every Need
The new RWD Macan utilizes a single rear-mounted electric motor churning out 340 PS and 563 Nm of torque. With over-boost activated during launch control, power surges to 360 PS, propelling the car from 0 to 100 km/h in a brisk 5.7 seconds. This lighter variant, weighing 110 kg less than the AWD models due to the absence of a front motor, boasts an impressive WLTP-claimed range of 641 km. Top speed is electronically limited to 220 km/h.
The 4S variant bridges the gap between the RWD and Turbo models. Sharing the 100 kWh battery pack across the electric Macan range, it packs a more potent rear motor and retains the front motor from the AWD variants. This combination delivers a combined output of 448 PS and a staggering 820 Nm of torque. In over-boost mode, power jumps to a remarkable 516 PS, launching the car from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 4.1 seconds. The 4S offers a WLTP-claimed range of 606 km.
Advanced Charging and Timeless Design
All electric Macan models benefit from the 800-volt architecture built on the PPE platform. This allows for DC fast charging up to 270 kW, meaning a 10-80% charge can be achieved in just 21 minutes.
Visually, the new RWD and 4S variants retain the sleek design language that debuted with the electric Macan earlier this year. The luxurious interior boasts a 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.6-inch infotainment screen, and a passenger display. An optional off-road design package enhances approach angles with a different bumper and offers a 10mm ground clearance increase in its highest setting.
A Competitive Landscape
These new additions significantly lower the entry point for the electric Macan. While Porsche offers a smaller package compared to rivals like the Mercedes-Benz EQE, BMW iX, and Audi e-tron, its competitive pricing makes it a compelling option in the luxury electric SUV segment.
