After their divorce, Kiran and Aamir stayed close friends. This year, Khan even produced Laapataa Ladies, directed by Kiran. The duo often praise each other for their work and never shared any bitter sentiments after their separation. In a new interview, Kiran reveals that she's happy after the divorce.

While talking to Faye D'Souza, Kiran Rao revealed that her divorce from Aamir Khan has been a happy one. Rao believes that relationships need to be redefined from time to time as people change as they grow. Sometimes, people need different things, and the divorce is what she felt would make her happy. The Dhobi Ghat director revealed that she's been very happy since her divorce from the superstar.
Furthermore, Kiran Rao stated that before being with Aamir Khan, she was single for a very long time and enjoyed her independence. She used to feel lonely, but now that she has her son Azad, she tends to feel less alone. Rao believes that when people get divorced or lose a partner, they're most worried about loneliness. However, she hasn't felt that way at all. Kiran revealed that both families support her. So it has been all good for her.
In the same interview, the Laapataa Ladies director revealed that ending a 15-year-long marriage with Aamir Khan wasn't simple for both of them. It took time for the duo to emotionally and mentally come to this decision. Rao was confident that she would survive her divorce from the Dangal star, as she wanted independence and time to focus on herself and her life. The filmmaker added that there's a lot of love, shared history, and laughter shared between her and Aamir. "This is a partnership that will stand the test of time despite the divorce," Rao stated.
