Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has set its sights on the electric vehicle performance world with the surprise unveiling of the SU7 Ultra prototype. This high-performance variant of their first electric car, the SU7, is designed to dominate the track.

Focused on Nurburgring glory

Unveiled as a pre-production concept, the SU7 Ultra boasts significant upgrades over the standard SU7, all aimed at achieving a blistering lap time at the legendary Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany. Xiaomi plans to put the prototype through its paces on the track in October 2024, with a production model following suit sometime in 2025.

Unbeatable Power

 The SU7 Ultra packs a serious punch thanks to Xiaomi’s in-house electric motor technology. A triple-motor setup consisting of two new V8s and a single V6s electric motor delivers a combined output of a staggering 1527 bhp, exceeding established electric performance leaders like the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan Turbo GT.

This translates to phenomenal real-world performance. The SU7 Ultra rockets from 0-100 km/h in a mere 1.97 seconds and achieves a mind-blowing top speed of 350 km/h.

Aggressive Design for Downforce

The SU7 Ultra’s sculpted bodywork isn’t just for looks; it’s meticulously crafted for peak aerodynamic performance. A prominent front splitter, redesigned fenders, and twin air vents on the hood all work together to manage airflow. A massive rear wing and aggressive diffuser further enhance downforce, generating a remarkable 2145 kg at 350 km/h.

To counteract the added weight of the aerodynamic elements, Xiaomi utilizes extensive carbon fiber for the body panels. This sheds a significant 300 kg, bringing the total weight down to a formidable 1900 kg.

Braking Performance

Ensuring confident stopping power to match its acceleration, the SU7 Ultra is equipped with high-performance brakes from AP Racing. These brakes, paired with racing discs, can withstand extreme temperatures exceeding 800 degrees Celsius. The car also boasts an energy recuperation system that delivers up to 0.6g of deceleration, allowing it to come to a complete stop from 100 km/h in just 25 meters.

Beyond the Prototype

While the SU7 Ultra steals the spotlight, Xiaomi offers the standard SU7 in three variants – Standard, Pro, and Max. The SU7 Max, currently the most powerful variant among these, features a dual-motor setup generating 664 bhp and 838 Nm of torque.

Taking on the Nürburgring

Xiaomi is confident that the SU7 Ultra prototype will surpass the current Nürburgring record for a non-production EV, set by the Volkswagen I.D. R at 6 minutes and 5.336 seconds. Following a successful run with the prototype, a production-ready SU7 will take on the challenge next year.
