Washington intends to support Yerevan in improving security management by appointing a US Army representative to Armenia's Defence Ministry, which will contribute to strengthening Armenian-American relations, the US Embassy in Armenia said in response to Armenpress' enquiry, specifying that the selection of the civilian advisor has already been made and he will start work this year.

‘The U.S. State Department's Global Defence Reform programme supports partner countries around the world in building more sustainable, effective and accountable security institutions by providing strategic-level advisory support,’ the embassy said, referring to the statement of U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Uzra Zeya, who said a few days ago in Yerevan that a U.S. military representative will work at the Armenian Defence Ministry.

When asked what functions will be assigned to the U.S. military representative at the Armenian Defence Ministry, the embassy said that the civilian advisor is not funded by the U.S. military or the Defence Department.

Funding is provided by the State Department, and the advisor will help strengthen Armenia's defence institutions. The advisor will work in Armenia, maintaining regular working contacts with the embassy and the Ministry of Defence.’
