Ather Energy Makes History: First EVs to Compete in India’s National Rally Sprint Championship
Ather Energy blazed a new trail in Indian motorsports by becoming the first electric vehicle brand to officially participate in the Indian National Rally Sprint Championship (INRSC). This historic event, held on July 21st, 2024, in Bengaluru, marked a significant step forward for electric mobility in India.
A Collaborative Effort
The single-make electric vehicle class at the INRSC was a collaborative effort between Evotron Motorsports, the Federation of Motorsports Clubs of India (FMSCI), FB Motorsports, and the Karnataka Motorsports Club (KMSC). This partnership provided a platform to showcase the capabilities of electric vehicles in a competitive racing environment.
Ather Takes Center Stage
Ather Energy played a pivotal role by supplying 12 Ather 450X scooters specifically modified for the rally. These scooters were equipped with TVS Eurogrip knobby tires, designed to provide superior grip and handling on the challenging off-road course.
A Star-Studded Event
The inaugural electric vehicle class attracted a total of 20 riders, including renowned names in Indian motorsports like Lani Zena Fernandez, Kousthubha M, Zaheer Mohammed, and Suhail Ahmed. Their participation not only added prestige to the event but also served as a testament to the growing interest in electric racing.
Choosing Your Perfect Ather
The Ather 450X comes in two flavors, each tailored to fit your riding style. For riders who crave maximum range, the 3.7kWh battery in the Ather 450X Gen 3 offers extended journeys on a single charge. This variant is priced at Rs. 1,55,156 (ex-showroom Bengaluru).
On the other hand, if you prioritize affordability, the 2.9kWh variant strikes a perfect balance between performance and price, starting at Rs. 1,40,756 (ex-showroom Bengaluru). Whichever variant you choose, you’ll experience the thrill of the Ather 450X’s permanent magnet synchronous (PMS) motor, generating 3kW of nominal power with bursts of up to 6.4kW for exhilarating acceleration. Both variants share a claimed top speed of 90 kmph.
Competition
The Ather 450X holds its own against strong contenders in the electric scooter market, including the Ola S1 Pro Gen 2, Hero Vida V1 Pro, Simple One, and the TVS iQube ST. But if practicality and a family-friendly design are your top priorities, Ather offers another option – the Ather Rizta. This scooter stands as a compelling alternative within the electric scooter segment.
