Secretary of Armenian Security Council discussed cooperation in nuclear energy with French Framatome

YEREVAN, 23 July. /ARKA/. Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan received on Tuesday in Yerevan a delegation of French company Framatome, a major producer of equipment for nuclear power plants./pp

Grigoryan welcomed the visit of Framatome delegation to Armenia and stressed the interest of the French side in the development of nuclear energy sphere in Armenia, the Security Council press service reported./pp/pp

Framatome, a leading international company in the field of nuclear energy, was founded in 1958 by French industrial giant Schneider Group in co-operation with Empain, Merlin Gérin and American Westinghouse. About the Armenian NPP/pp/pp

The Armenian NPP, the only one in the South Caucasus region, is located near the town of Metsamor - about 30 kilometres west of Yerevan. The plant is one of the main sources of electricity in the country, providing up to 40 per cent of the total output. Its lifespan has been extended until 2026, and work is underway to extend it for another 10 years./pp
