Citroën India has pulled the wraps off the production-spec Basalt coupe-SUV ahead of its global debut on August 2. Positioned as India’s first mainstream SUV Coupé, the Basalt is set to rival the upcoming Tata Curvv.

A Bold Design Statement

The Basalt seamlessly merges the dynamic elegance of a coupé with the robust practicality of an SUV. Its striking silhouette, characterized by smooth, flowing lines, is a testament to Citroën’s design prowess. Key design elements include:

• Sculpted Clamshell Bonnet: Adds a muscular yet refined touch to the front.
• X-Shaped Split DRLs: A distinctive Citroën signature.
• Floating Blade Tail Lamps: Enhance the vehicle’s width and visual impact.
• Color Clips: Introduce subtle color accents for a touch of sophistication.

Pierre Leclercq, Head of Citroën Design, emphasized the Basalt’s unique character: “It brings together the best of two worlds: the robustness and versatility of an SUV, and the roominess and efficiency of a Coupé.”

SUV Stance, Coupé Appeal

The Basalt’s SUV DNA is evident in its strong fenders, geometric wheel arches, and raised ground clearance. However, the coupe-like sloping roofline, inspired by iconic models like the Citroën CX, lends it a distinct elegance.

Advanced Comfort and Technology

The Basalt is expected to be equipped with a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other interior highlights include a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control with toggle switches, contoured rear headrests, and a front armrest with storage.

Powertrain and Pricing

Under the hood, the Basalt will be powered by the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine as the C3 Aircross, producing 110hp and 205Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.

Positioned above the C3 Aircross in Citroën’s lineup, the Basalt is expected to carry a starting price of around Rs 11 lakh to Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom). The Citroën Basalt is poised to disrupt the Indian automotive landscape with its bold design, unique positioning, and the promise of a compelling driving experience.
