Suzuki Recalls Over 3 Lakh Scooters for Safety Issue

Suzuki Motorcycle India has announced a major recall affecting over 388,000 units of its popular scooters – the Access 125, Burgman Street 125, and Avenis 125. The recall, issued on July 25, 2024, pertains to scooters manufactured between April 30 and December 3, 2022.

The root cause of the recall is a faulty high-tension cord connected to the ignition coil. Suzuki has identified that the cord does not meet the required specifications and is prone to cracking due to engine vibrations. This can lead to engine stalling, starting issues, and potential damage to other components.

Owners of affected scooters will be contacted by Suzuki to schedule an inspection and necessary repairs, which will be carried out free of charge.

In a separate development, Suzuki has also issued a recall for its adventure motorcycle, the V-Strom 800 DE, affecting approximately 67 units sold in India. This recall addresses a potential issue with the rear tire.

While these recalls underscore Suzuki’s commitment to vehicle safety, the company has also introduced the 2024 models of the Access 125, Burgman Street 125, and Avenis 125. These updated versions feature new color options but retain the same mechanical specifications as their predecessors.

As a responsible manufacturer, Suzuki urges owners of affected scooters to promptly respond to the recall notification and schedule an appointment for inspection and repair.
