MG Motor India has sent ripples of excitement through the electric vehicle (EV) market with the teaser of its upcoming model, the Cloud EV. Promising a unique blend of sedan-like comfort and SUV-like space, the Cloud is poised to be the third electric offering from the British automaker in India, joining the ranks of the ZS EV and the Comet EV.

Design and Dimensions

The teaser has offered a glimpse into the Cloud EV’s design, highlighting sleek connected LED headlights and hinting at a panoramic sunroof. Spy shots reveal a crossover with a bold stance, featuring a wider and taller profile compared to its sibling, the ZS EV. The Cloud measures in at a substantial 4,295mm in length, 1,850mm in width, and 1,652mm in height, with a generous 2,700mm wheelbase. To complete the look, 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 215/55 section tires add a touch of sporty elegance.

Performance and Range

While specific details about the powertrain are still under wraps, the Cloud EV is expected to draw inspiration from its global counterpart, the Wuling Cloud EV. This suggests a potential output of around 150 kW (201 hp) and a commendable range of up to 460 km on a single charge.

Positioning and Competition

MG aims to position the Cloud EV as a premium alternative to the likes of the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400, while also offering a more accessible option compared to the brand’s own ZS EV. With an anticipated price tag of around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom), the Cloud EV is set to compete in a rapidly growing segment of the Indian EV market.

A Strategic Move

The launch of the Cloud EV is more than just the introduction of a new model. It signifies MG’s ambitious plans to expand its electric vehicle portfolio in India. The company has expressed its intention to introduce one or two new products every six months, underscoring its commitment to leading the country’s electric mobility revolution.
